09/26/2014 Phew! Glad the test is over. It actually went pretty well and I think the writing, reading, and listening portion was goodl. We had to listen to CD and check which phrases we thought they were saying. It’s tricky because they talk SO fast. The rest of the writing test went okay. We had to make sentences in present and past tense, and there was also a multiple choice section. My favorite part of the writing part was getting to write a pretend ’email’ to a friend. We had to write about our typical day, what times we do things, how we like our host family, what we like about Granada, and how Granada is different from our hometown. If you know me well, then you know I love to write! Once I get started I can’t stop! I had to ask my teacher for more paper because I filled up the one we got. So, hopefully the writing test went well. We will find out our score on Monday!
The last part of the test was the oral part. We each had to go in separately and talk, and then go in with a partner and have a conversation. I had to be the last person to go, and I think that made me really nervous. I think I did okay, but when I was by myself I could not think as quick as I normally do. When I talk to my host mom it’s good, but when I was under pressure it was tougher than I thought. I had to talk about what I like about Granada and how it’s different than my hometown. I think I did okay, it was just a little tricky and I had to think for a bit before I said something. It’s hard to use past tense because we just learned that this week. All in all, I think it went well and I hope it pays off that I’ve studied so much since I’ve been here.
This first month was strictly just the Spanish Language class. Starting next Wednesday, our classes for the semester officially begin. I find out my schedule on Monday. I think I have some classes along the line of History of Spain, Culture of Spain, Grammar, etc. Not exactly sure yet.
Next week we also start my favorite part!! Volunteering in the schools with children!!! I AM SO EXCITED 🙂 🙂 On Tuesday we meet with one of our directors and she’ll take us to a school to get situated in a classroom. We will be volunteering as English Language Assistants. I have worked with children my whole life and miss working at the children’s center so much. This will be such a great opportunity and I will learn so much. The children will probably know more Spanish than me at first, but I am so excited to learn from them as well. We can go however many times we want, so depending on my schedule I will probably go once or twice a week. I can’t wait!! 🙂
Have a good weekend!!
