Hola, a todos!
We started off the day today by making the most important meal of the day with some eggs we bought last night, left over onion, cheese, bread and butter! I was one of the first ones up so I figured I would get to cracking the eggs and everyone else would be awake by the time they were done (it takes a while to crack 15 eggs)! Heidi was my partner in crime and she chopped up what was left of the onion. Once the eggs were scrambled, everyone was awake and ready to eat!
We had our breakfast, cleaned up, got packed, and headed back for the beach because today—I am going to (try to) learn how to surf. While packing and getting ready to go, we discovered a little crab with our drying swim suits!
We found a spot on the beach for Callie to sit with our stuff (she just wanted to soak in the sun’s rays today) and Leslie, Heidi, and I were off in search of the cheapest surfboard rental in Jacó. We found a shop that offered daylong rentals for $10 a piece (opposed to the $20 they wanted on the beach). We got two boards to share between Leslie, Heidi, MaKayla and I and headed back to the beach. I have to say, I am very glad that I am much better at swimming than I am at surfing, but I don’t think I did too bad for my first go at it (and without a lesson)—I got about halfway up once but I didn’t die, so I think it was a pretty successful first attempt.
The others weren’t too keen on how strong the waves were—but I was determined so I spent the majority of the morning/early afternoon out trying to catch some waves while everyone else enjoyed the beach. By the time I was done trying to surf I was dead tired and very thankful it was time to go get some lunch. We stopped for lunch at the same soda shop/restaurant we had stopped at yesterday and I had some great arroz con camarones!
After lunch it was back to Más x Menos for some bus snacks and then to the bus station in Jacó to catch our bus back to San Jose. We made it home safe and sound and now, it’s time to get ready for the first day of new classes tomorrow!
