Day 28

August 12, 2017

Hola, a todos!

We made it to Playas del Coco pretty late last night, ate a quick dinner, played a few rounds of UNO and then went to bed–because we had a big day today!

This morning at 6:30 we left our Air bnb to catch a taxi down the road to where our catamaran cruise was leaving from. The beach where we were meeting the crew was absolutely incredible. We were all so excited to be out on the boat, to relax, enjoy the sun, and snorkel.

After taking in the beach for a few minutes it was time to board. We boarded our catamaran, were briefed on our excursion and the house rules and then were free to relax, soak up some rays and take in the beautiful ocean and coast. The sights, sounds of the waves, and smell of salt water were indescribable.  We also saw some sea turtles that were… um… hugging!

After awhile we made it to our snorkeling spot! Unfortunately, I don’t have too many pictures of us snorkeling because I got a little zealous, dove down too deep and broke my waterproof camera… Oops! I was just too excited to be in a body of water again–I’m missing the pool! The pictures that I did get are beautiful but can’t begin to do justice the beauty of the ocean floor, the reefs and the tropical fish. Our guide showed us sea urchins, crabs, starfish and puffer fish! I even held a starfish and puffer fish which was quite the experience. The starfish crawled around my hand and I can’t really describe the feeling of the puffer fish.

After snorkeling for more than an hour we got back on board the catamaran and enjoyed our ride back to the beach where we and a family had boarded. After finding out that we had come from Coco the crew offered to take us back there so we wouldn’t have to take another taxi since that’s where they dock anyway. We enjoyed the return voyage and then once we made it back to Coco sat on the boat chatting with the crew (in Spanish of course) until almost 4:30 in the afternoon! It was an incredible experience, a good amount of Spanish practice, and we definitely got our money’s worth–after all, our 7:30 to 12 tour had turned into a 7:30-4:30 tour!

We finally made our way back to our Air bnb and enjoyed the pool for awhile before it was time to run to the grocery store to get food for dinner and breakfast.

Callie and I made the trek to the store and bought eggs for breakfast and the fixings for chicken nachos for dinner! Once we returned with the goods I chopped up the veggies, cooked the chicken, and then it was time for dinner!

It was a great day and I can’t wait for tomorrow!

Until then,
