I was extremely excited to embark on this study abroad trip in Costa Rica! However, I was most nervous about meeting and living with a host family. When I arrived in Costa Rica, I was as nervous as ever to meet my new mom for the next month. I can still picture the look on my mama tica’s face when my sister and I arrived, and then I new instantly that this was going to be a great experience.
I have spent a tremendous amount of time talking to my mom because I can take all the cultural and speaking classes that there are, but by getting to hear my moms first hand experiences and watch the way that she exemplifies the Costa Rican culture has allowed me to learn the most. I would extremely encourage everyone to take the time to really know their new host parent because it was been one of my favorite parts of this experience.
