Not too long ago, I was experiencing my ‘firsts’ here in Costa Rica. My first visit to Heredia, my first meal prepared by my mama tica, my first time going to the university, my first times talking and dancing with Ticos, and my first time seeing all my SOLmates. Now, I am living my ‘lasts’ here. Yesterday was my last day going to the university. The last time I saw all my SOLmates together. Today was probably my last time seeing the incredible natural landscapes here. Tomorrow will be my last time sleeping in the house of my Costa Rican family. But, that’s enough of lasts. After all, I will return to Costa Rica one day.
However, these last days are bittersweet. I have enjoyed and learned so much, especially about myself. But, how can I sum up Costa Rica in one post? It’s an impossible task. I have visited some of the most beautiful places in the world – photos of which don’t do them justice. I have seen so many incredible animals – in person! – that I can’t see in the United States. I have attended university with wonderful people who learned a lot about Spanish and literature with me. I have discovered things about myself that I never even knew existed. And I am all the better for it.
I don’t want to pack up my life and leave from here – I am procrastinating on doing that right now. However, every day has been another adventure. And maybe that is what I need to take with me when I return to the states. To live every day with an adventurous spirit – with the sentiment of Pura Vida – that is the best souvenir I can take home with me.
